Physical Education

VISION

At Rusper Primary School, we recognise the importance PE plays in the curriculum and are committed to providing all children with opportunities to engage fully in Physical Education(PE). Since the beginning of the human species there has always been a need to move and be active but as time has gone by, and technological advances have been made, there has been an increase in sedentary lifestyles and the associated health problems. There is strong and consistent evidence that doing regular, moderate-intensity physical activity provides a range of physical, intellectual and emotional benefits for everyone. At Rusper Primary School, we recognise the importance of physical education and the effect it has on a child’s health and wellbeing, their ability to learn effectively and achieve in school.

PE should provide opportunities for all pupils to become physically literate and confident in a way which also supports their health and fitness. Children should acquire not only physical skills, knowledge and understanding, but also the awareness and importance of leading healthy, active lives, as well as the values of sportsmanship, fairness and respect through the sports and activities they undertake.

As a healthy school, we want to promote participation in sport and physical activity and believe we have an important role in partnership with the family and wider community in promoting physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
